Living in Laos
September to December 2003

Marie-Paul Lesage discovered Laos and its cultural wealth over a four-month residency jointly organised by the European Centres for Artistic and Contemporary Action (CEAAC) and the Cultural Centre for Linguistic Cooperation (CCCL). An exhibition of her work was organised there, and for three months, young artists from the National Institute of Art in Vientiane, were given the opportunity to discover etching and engraving.

A deservedly successful book and exhibition recorded the results of their work.

This first residency gave birth to a yearly cooperative project between the CCCL and the CEAAC. Every year since 2003, a different artist has travelled to Laos and held the workshops again, helping to develop etching in several Laotian Art Schools.
